As a kid and novice basketball fan I always assumed Alonzo Mourning was over seven feet tall like his Georgetown brethren Dikembe Mutombo and Patrick Ewing. Yes Patrick was aided by his immaculate flat-top, but he is clearly taller than Zo.
See this photo led me to a question, where have all the good NBA centers gone? Right now there are maybe four solid true 7 foot centers in the NBA. The list is Marc Gasol, Tyson Chandler, Roy Hibbert, and of course Andrew “It’s my life” Bynum. Somehow in every other sport including basketball the players have gotten bigger and bigger, with the one exception being the center position. It makes absolutely no sense to me.
I also wish they would bring back the person who designed these flawless All-Star jerseys next year when the game is in New Orleans. It’s All-Star Weekend, there is no need to be conservative with the jersey design.
